Chicle / 8 poemas de Legna Rodríguez Iglesias ; diseño y collage: Leonardo Amador.

Description:
PQ7392.R632 C45 2020. "Chicle" is a unique artist book featuring 8 poems by Cuban author Legna Rodríguez Iglesias, designed and collaged by Leonardo Amador. Published in 2023 by Ediciones Vigía in Matanzas, Cuba, this one-of-a-kind creation showcases innovative bookmaking techniques. The work consists of a larger book with recycled corrugated cardboard covers, featuring layered cut-outs, mounted collage elements, and a hollow space that houses a smaller booklet. The front cover is adorned with a faux-bloody menstrual pad, a TicTac box, and other collage elements that reflect themes from the poems, such as feminine hygiene products. The smaller booklet has a leather-like binding, while the back cover displays Vigía's signature lantern emblem. This unique piece exemplifies the intersection of poetry, visual art, and bookmaking, offering a tactile and visually striking experience for readers. Content Note: The author protests against the lack of female hygiene products in Cuba, which has been exacerbated by the U.S. embargo since 1962.
