Carte générale du royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne

Attribution:
Alexander von Humboldt
Date:
1811
Description:
Made to accompany his Political Essay on the Kingdom of New Spain, Alexander von Humboldt’s map was based on archival research he conducted in Mexico City and Washington, D.C. His work details the newly-reorganized political subdivisions of New Spain—known as the intendencia system—that was introduced as part of the so-called Bourbon Reforms in 1786. Humboldt’s Carte was one of the most influential maps of the region for nearly fifty years.
