[T and O style mappa mundi] in Etymologiae
- Attribution:
- Isidore of Seville
- Date:
- 1472
- Description:
- This is the first map to appear in a printed book. It is an example of what is known as a T and O map, with the world consisting of three continents: Asia at the top, Europe in the bottom left, and Africa on the bottom right. It was first used by Isidore of Seville in the seventh century, but changes in geographic knowledge from the late-fifteenth century onward reworked the appearance of world maps.
