Printed as part of an ordinance promulgated by viceroy Martín de Mayorga to reorganize the city into eight precincts, Manuel Villavicencio’s map bears the symbols of the Spanish monarch, Charles IV, and those of the royal city: a crowned eagle with the crest of Mexico City at its heart.
