Description:

This Sanborn fire insurance map of Berkeley provides detailed layouts of the streets down to the individual businesses and residences, with information on their construction materials, number of stories, building use, and more. Given that these maps were printed periodically, insurance agents added paste-on corrections with updated information to reflect changes to the property. This opening illustrates a smaller footprint for the University of California, Berkeley, campus.
