[Map of Sequoia and Yosemite]

- Description:
- John Muir shared his enthusiasm and knowledge for the establishment of Yosemite as a National Park with his friend Robert Underwood Johnson, editor of Century Magazine. In 1889, Johnson had accompanied Muir to the Sierras, and after the trip he spurred Muir to pursue the idea of establishing the area as an expanded park. In a letter to Johnson, dated May 19, 1891, Muir enclosed this map, stating “I think that the Sequoia & Yosemite Reservations of the Kahneah, Tule, and Kings River would be one, as I have indicated in the map with this [letter].”
