Attribution:
Frederick William Beechey
Date:
1849
Description:
The map for the broadside Another view of California— based on a map by F. W. Beechey and engraved by S.P. Avery in New York City—was originally published by the British Admiralty in 1833. Beechey provided the first thorough scientific survey of San Francisco Bay, the results of his efforts to map the area in 1826 and 1827. On the verso of the broadside the text discusses the discovery of gold as well as the inundation of people migrating into the area.
