Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Date:
1756
Description:
Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s plan of the Campus Martius is part of a four-volume set produced after spending a number of years measuring and sketching the ruins of ancient Rome. Piranesi is famed for his engraving and etching skills that depict the decaying ruins and, in this case, the whimsical compositions that render the map as an ancient stone tablet.
