Description:
This nineteenth-century map of Mexico City and its vicinity sought to recreate what the region would have looked like three hundred years prior. It shows the city’s westward expansion and the many calzadas (roadways) that crossed the lakes to connect the island to the mainland. The map accompanies a manuscript copy of a description of the city written in 1682.
