“Seno de Californias y su costa oriental"

Attribution:
Fernando Consag
Date:
1746
Description:
Drawn by the Jesuit missionary Fernando Consag, or Ferdinand Konšćak in his native Croatian, this handmade map of the Gulf of California shows the expansion of the Jesuit missions in the Baja California peninsula and the mainland. Consag’s map offered the definitive proof that California was not an island and became an important source of information after its publication in Miguel Venegas’s Noticia de California (1757).
