Los de abajo (1916) es una novela de la Revolución Mexicana basada en las experiencias que vivió su autor Mariano Azuela como médico militar en las fuerzas de Julián Medina y en las anécdotas que escuchó de sus camaradas. De hecho, uno de sus personajes, Luis Cervantes, comparte semejanzas con la vida del autor, como la de ser médico y unirse a las tropas villistas. The work is called "La Entrada de Francisco I Madero en la Ciudad de Mexico, 7 de Junio de 1911" published by the Taller de Grafica Popular in Mexico City in 1945. Illustrated reference on the books "Leopoldo Mendez" by Manuel Maples Arce (1970) on page 74 with catalog number 35 and "El Taller de Grafica Popular" by Humberto Musacchio (2007) on page 13.

Information from the accompanying booklet states: “Aprehendidos infraganti, mátalos en caliente”, decía telegrama que Porfirio Díaz envío al general Luis Mier y Terán, Comandante Militar de Veracruz, para indicarle que, sin juicio, fusilara a varias personas cuyo único delito consistía en anhelar un régimen democrático. El 25 de junio de 1879 fueron llevados al paredón los jefes de este frustrado movimiento revolucionario, precursor de los acontecimientos de 1910. Alberto Morales Jimenez.

Although, this collection deals with the history of Jalisco, in the story called Llano de llamas as noted in the article, «Mujeres en obras literarias de la Revolución Mexicana» by Diego Isidro Díaz Pérez y Ana Verónica Villarroel Márquez there is a reference to the revolution as follows, "Llegó la señal. Se oyó un chiflido largo y comenzó la tracatera allá lejos (…) Para la siguiente descarga tuvimos que esperar. Alguno de nosotros gritó “¡Viva Pedro Zamora!” (…) Luego comenzó la corretiza por entre los matorrales. Sentíamos las balas pajueleándonos los talones (…) (Rulfo, 2017: 71)." Diego Isidro Díaz Pérez y Ana Verónica Villarroel Márquez in Revista literaria monolito's article, "Mujeres en obras literarias de la Revolución Mexicana» por Diego Isidro Díaz Pérez y Ana Verónica Villarroel Márquez," provide synthesis of the novel as follows, "Tropa vieja se ubica entre los momentos previos al levantamiento de Francisco Madero y concluye cuando éste es asesinado por el general Victoriano Huerta. A lo largo de la novela, el autor nos regala diferentes referentes que ayudan a ubicarnos temporalmente con el inicio y desarrollo de la Revolución, tales como: “- Por ahí andan diciendo que ha salido un tal Madero; quiere ser presidente de la república y tumbar a don Porfirio” (Urquizo, 2016: 88).
