Diversity, Part 1

The Daily Californian reflected its times, sometimes reinforcing the racism, sexism, and ableism of the last 150 years, and at other times actively advocating for greater inclusion for marginalized groups. Some articles demonstrate the determination of Cal students, staff, and faculty to claim their place at the university despite social and structural barriers.

Nathan Huggins did not win the ASUC election in 1953 but he did become a distinguished scholar of African American Studies at Harvard University.
