Shelf Life Preserving the Library’s Collections

Circulating Book Repair

Circulating collections are repaired to be strong and durable in order to withstand further use. The Preservation Department works with the UC Bindery to make sturdy covers and bindings for vulnerable books. Minor repairs, such as resewing loose sections, reattaching detached pages, and mending torn paper, are performed in the conservation lab prior to going to the UC Bindery. Repairs on circulating collections are kept to a minimum because it may be more cost effective to purchase a replacement copy.
